Helping You Understand Your Pet’s Health
When your pet is unwell, the most important thing you need is clarity. Knowing what is wrong, why it is happening, and what can be done about it is the foundation of every good treatment decision. At Rockbrook Animal Clinic, our in-house diagnostic capabilities allow our veterinary team to evaluate your pet thoroughly, often within a single visit, so we can move from uncertainty to answers as quickly as possible.
Why In-House Diagnostic Care Matters
Sending your pet to an outside facility for diagnostic work adds time, cost, and stress to an already difficult situation. When we can perform radiology, ultrasound, and endoscopy right here at our clinic, we are able to evaluate results in the context of everything else we already know about your pet, including their history, their physical exam findings, and the clinical picture our team has built over years of care. That continuity makes a meaningful difference in both the quality and the speed of diagnosis. It also means you spend less time waiting and more time with a clear plan in hand.
Our Diagnostic Capabilities
At Rockbrook Animal Clinic, we have invested in the diagnostic tools that allow our veterinary team to evaluate your pet thoroughly and accurately, right here in our Omaha clinic. Our core diagnostic capabilities include digital radiology, ultrasound, and endoscopy, each offering a different and complementary window into your pet's health.
Digital Radiology
Radiographs remain one of the most valuable and frequently used diagnostic tools in veterinary medicine. Our digital radiology system produces high-resolution images almost instantly, allowing our veterinarians to evaluate bones, joints, the chest cavity, and abdominal organs with a level of clarity that supports confident, well-informed decisions. Digital imaging also means we can share results with veterinary specialists quickly when a second opinion or referral is warranted.
We use radiology to evaluate:
- Fractures, joint disease, and orthopedic conditions
- Heart and lung abnormalities
- Abdominal organ size, shape, and position
- Suspected foreign body ingestion
- Dental structures as part of a comprehensive oral health assessment
Ultrasound
Where radiology shows us structure, ultrasound shows us what is happening inside. Using sound waves to produce real-time images of soft tissue organs, ultrasound allows our veterinarians to assess things that X-rays cannot reveal, including fluid accumulation, organ texture, internal masses, and blood flow. It is non-invasive, involves no radiation, and can often be performed without sedation. We use ultrasound regularly to evaluate the heart, liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder, and reproductive organs. It is also an invaluable guide for procedures such as fine needle aspirates and fluid collection when tissue samples are needed for further analysis.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy gives our veterinary team a direct, real-time view inside your pet's body using a small, flexible camera, without the recovery time that surgery would require. It is one of the most effective tools we have for investigating gastrointestinal symptoms that have not resolved with initial treatment or that require a closer look to understand properly. In many cases, endoscopy allows us to both diagnose and treat in the same procedure.
We use endoscopy to investigate:
- Chronic vomiting, regurgitation, or persistent diarrhea
- Suspected foreign object ingestion
- Biopsy collection from the gastrointestinal lining
- Esophageal abnormalities
- Nasal passage and airway evaluation when indicated
Putting It All Together
Diagnostics are rarely used in isolation. Our veterinarians draw on radiology, ultrasound, endoscopy, bloodwork, urinalysis, and physical examination findings together to build a complete and accurate picture of what is happening with your pet. This integrated approach reduces the likelihood of missed diagnoses, supports more targeted treatment, and leads to better outcomes. It reflects the standard of care we have always held ourselves to at Rockbrook Animal Clinic — thoughtful, thorough, and always in your pet's best interest.
